A rare caricature. A skinny, bespectacled, smiling portrait painter stands at his enormous easel, painting a flattering, full length, family portrait of a fat ‘cit’, his plump overdressed wife and their yawning little boy, who is improbably dressed as a small cupid with his bow and quiver of arrows. High on the wall are two oval family portraits of a fat clergyman and his wife. A satire on the pretensions of the middle classes. BM 5921.
