In 1722, while commanding the Leopard, in the Meditteranean he seized a ship named the Revolution, lying within the mole of Genoa. He stayed with the Leopard on the coast of Portugal and in the Channel until the end of 1728. In 1741 he commanded the Nassau in the Channel under Sir John Norris, and on 19th June 1744 he was promoted to be Rear Admiral of the White, and subsequently in 1745 Vice Admiral and Commander in chief in the Meditteranean.
He died on board the Russel at Vardo on 5th August 1747 probably in ignorance of his final promotion.
