Description

Eldest son of the third Duke of Norfolk, poet and traitor. Depicted half-length facing left
It was assumed that Surrey had designs on the crown, and indeed he was suggested as a possible heir before the birth of Prince Edward. However, in adopting new arms to reinforce his families superiority over the Seymours, he was seen to remain a threat to Edward. His insistance on adherence to the old religion also made him a target for the establishment, and he died at Tower Hill in 1547.
