A charming full length portrait of the daughters of Philip 2^nd Earl Hardwicke, Lady Amabel-Grey (1751-1833) and Lady Mary Jemima (1757-1830), depicted as children. On the left, the elder, Lady Amabel-Grey stands wearing an ermine trimmed coat, with a dove on her wrist, while her sister runs excitedly towards her, also clutching a dove and playing with their pet poodle. In the background is a wooded park, with a sphinx on a pedestal. In 1772 Lady Amabel-Grey married Lord Polwarth who died before his father the Earl of Marchmont, and in 1816 was created Countess de Grey in her own right. Her sister married the 2^nd Lord Grantham, who died in 1786, and her eldest son succeeded to the titles both of Grantham and de Grey.
