A large, splendid view of the Column of Antonina.
From a series of engravings of the palaces, churches, monuments, and ancient ruins of imperial Rome. The plates illustrating the transportation and erection of the Vatican Obelisk in 1586 are particularly interesting. In 1663 Joan Blaeu published the first two parts of his ‘Townbooks of Italy’ in Amsterdam. In 1704-1705 the volumes were reissued with additions by Pierre Mortier also in Amsterdam. In 1724-1725 Rutgert Christoffel Alberts published the work again, this time in The Hague, using Mortier’s plates (without alteration) and adding further plates of his own, many engraved by Giacomo de Rossi
