Description

Although published in Augsburg, the title of this work is in English and is dedicated to the Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. Johann Elias Haid (1737-1809), was the son and pupil of Johann Jakob Haid, engraver and publisher. After succeeding his father Johann Elias developed close business ties and became a frequent visitor to London. The plate shows a pretty young girl, seated in a kitchen before a saucepan boiling on the fire, carefully de-scaling fish. Two fish and an eel lie on the floor at her feet, cabbages rest on a barrel behind her chair, and some fruit is tied up in a napkin.
