A rare, sentimental pair of German mezzotints. In plate’a’ Alexis, in a prison cell, bids goodbye to his fainting sweetheart as he is about to be dragged out to execution. In plate ‘b’ a huge crowd cheers the king, as Alexis, consoled by a clergyman, is pulled away from his mistress.
