William Cleaver (1742-1815), Principal of Brasenose, stands looking to the left, wearing mortar board, old fashioned bob wig and academic dress. His active participation in University life gave Brasenose a reputation for scholarship and discipline, which it had hitherto lacked, he also became successively Bishop of Chester, Bangor and St. Asaph.
