In a sparsely furnished room, with green blinds and ‘To Let’ notices in the window, a grossly bedizened landlady in a flowered muslin dress, lace cap and red shawl, her barking spaniel at her feet, accosts her lodger. He is hurriedly making towards the door, an umbrella under his arm. BM 14998.
