A half length portrait of Charles Shaw the Yorkshire barrister and M.P. for Reading from 1802-20. Upon his marriage to Helena Lefevre a member of an old Normandy family long settled in Hampshire, he changed his name to Shaw-Lefevre and became a substantial Hampshire landowner. Their son later became an eminent Speaker of the House of Commons and 1st Viscount Eversley. He has a round, smiling face and wears a dark coat with a velvet collar. He leans his arm on a shelf and in the background is a draped brocade curtain.
