George Gordon, 9th Marquess of Huntly was born on 28 June 1761. He was the son of Charles Gordon, 4th Earl of Aboyne and Lady Margaret Stewart. He married Catherine Cope, daughter of Sir Charles Cope, 2nd Bt. and Catherine Bisshopp, on 4 April 1791. He died on 17 June 1853 at age 91.
George Gordon, 9th Marquess of Huntly was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England. He gained the rank of Ensign on 2 September 1777 in the service of the 1st Foot. He gained the rank of Captain on 26 September 1777 in the service of the 61st Foot. He was Aide-de-Camp to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland in 1780. He gained the rank of Captain and Lieutenant-Colonel in 1789 in the service of the 35th Foot. He retired from the military in 1792. He succeeded to the title of 5th Earl of Aboyne [S., 1660] on 28 December 1794. He succeeded to the title of 5th Lord Gordon of Strathavon and Glenlivet [S., 1660] on 28 December 1794. He held the office of Representative peer [Scotland] between 1796 and 1806. He held the office of Representative peer [Scotland] between 1807 and 1818. He was created 1st Baron Meldrum of Morven, co. Aberdeen [U.K.] on 11 August 1815. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1827. He held the office of Militia Aide-de-Camp to King William IV between 1830 and 1837. He held the office of Militia Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Victoria between 1835 and 1853. He succeeded to the title of 9th Marquess of Huntly [S., 1599] on 28 May 1836. He succeeded to the title of 9th Lord Gordon of Badenoch [S., 1599] on 28 May 1836. He succeeded to the title of 9th Earl of Enzie [S., 1599] on 28 May 1836. He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Aberdeen Militia.
