Description
Samuel Parr, 1747 – 1825. A descendant of Catherine Parr, sixth wife of Henry VIII. He was sent to school at Harrow, and at fourteen was said to be top of the school, but was removed to train as a doctor in his father’s business. He hated the business and eventually in 1764 her was allowed by his father to change medicine for divinity. He was entered at Emmanuel College, Cambridge on 19th October 1765. In 1767 he became first assistant at Harrow. Parr was ordained deacon by the Bishop of London in 1769. It is thought that he never became headmaster at Harrow because of his political affiliations.
