A rare Phillips satire on the fashion of the day.
Two fashionably dressed young dandies have entered an elegant room. The footman can be seen closing the door behind them. The man on our left bows towards two ladies, he wears a tailed coat and tight breeches, The two fashionably attired ladies with exaggerated hair styling inspect him with their eye glasses. One is seated, looking through a portfolio of prints, the other is standing, a monkey hanging from her bent right arm., The man to our right, with a tailed coat, and wide flared trousers, holds up an eye glass to look at two ladies before him. Both ladies are fashionably dressed, the first a young lady, whose eyes are lowered. Behind her an older woman with a very large hat and crooked nose, looks up at the gentleman.
Either side of the main title reads
Blush not flower of Modesrty..Shakespeare
Tis manners makes the Gentlemen and want of them the Fellow. Pope
