A rare, Derby published print.

The scene is of ‘John Gilpin’ riding at speed through an open Toll Gate. A pig and a variety of farm fowl are scattering before the horse and rider.

An alarmed couple in the foreground hurry away from the scene. Behind him a group of  men on  horses are about to set off in chase, figures at the upstairs window of an Inn look down on the scene.
