A rare Tregear caricature.
A mother lies in bed, some time after having given birth. Her proud husband stands at the foot of the bed. To the rear, beside the bed, a delighted midwife holds out their baby, and exclaims My goodness gracious ! Hear’s a Family Likeness for ye – It’s daddy all over with it’s Mummy’s Nose – Bless it’s little Soul—hey diddle diddle—.The baby has a huge bulbous nose just like her mother and father. Her right arm ends in a stump with a metal hook attached, and her left leg ends above her knee with a peg leg attached, both just like her father. She is also shown balding with a long pigtail tied with a bow, and wearing spectacles, also just like her father.
In the left hand margin is inscribed
