The short legged, stern figure of William Elias Taunton (1773-1835), Recorder of Oxford and Justice of the King’s Bench, stands in profile to the left. He wears wrinkled breeches, baggy hessian boots and a low crowned hat. He is said to have been one of those responsible for inviting Dighton to Oxford. BM 10779.
