Below the title continues, “We reason from cause to effect”
A Scotsman with a large belly, sporting checked trousers, a waistcoat bursting at the buttons, long jacket and top hat, stands facing the viewer. He has a thistle garland round the rim of his hat and a bulbous red nose. He is carring a sack over his left shoulder, inscribed Scotch Froth, Scotch Flummery, Scotch Flattery, Scotch Fawning, Scotch Funning, Scotch Fiddleing. His right arm is bent, carring boxes attached to chains. They are inscribed, Freedom Edinburgh, Freedom, and Freedom Glasgow. He says I believe most people will think me somewhat altered ; but whether for the better or worse is a matter of taste.
