A yokel, in his working smock, and his wife sit in their kitchen, at a table on which rests a jug of frothing ale and two mugs. John smokes his pipe and in the background is a blazing fire. She sits reading the newspaper, and says to her husband Why this Bonny-part be making Kings every day – I should not wonder if thee wast in France, if he made a king of thee John…… John replies Why I’d swing on a gate and eat fat Bacon all the day long. A satire both on Revolutionary egalitarian principles and Napoleon’s crowning his brother Jerome King of Westphalia in August 1807. BM 10903.
