Alderman Wood as a human headed monkey and Queen Caroline as a large tortoiseshell cat, sit cosily arm in arm in front of the kitchen fire. The coals on the fire are inscribed Privileges, Rights, Liturgy, St. Catherine’s and a large pot on the hob is labelled Kettle of Fish. The verse beneath the design indicates that Wood is about to plunge Caroline’s paw into the fire in order to pull out a chestnut. A satire both on Wood’s relationship with the Queen and his manipulation of her for his own political aims.
