The Duchess of St Albans, stout, be-jewelled, over-dressed, and overpowering, sails towards the throne, leading her small husband, who hurries beside her, in quasi-Elizabethan dress with two falcons on his arm. King George IV stands in front of the throne, hand extended, surprised at the display of feathers and jewels. On her arm is a huge reticule filled with coins ; Pocket made of Old Coats. The company register contempt or surprise. Wellington, standing by the King, looks impassively over his shoulder at the pair. Behind on the right the Duke of Devonshire and the scowling Duke of Cumberland exchange glances.
