Description

A large, slightly caricaturised mezzotint, executed in Lupton’s typically precise, detailed style. A downcast yokel, in his working smock, stands in his master’s study, while an indignant bailliff, who has evidently caught the poacher red handed, holds up a large hare for his master to inspect. Their master, wearing an elaborate dressing gown and slippers, sits at his desk, listening with a grim expression on his face. In the background a black footman and a housemaid eavesdrop gleefully behind the door.
