A half length portrait, enclosed in an oval of the great Spanish general Ambrosio Spinola, Duke of Sanseverino (1569-c. 1640). He wears a large ruff, armour and an elaborate chain, and is chiefly famous for his defence of Breda in 1636, against the Dutch forces led by George Monck, later first Duke of Albemarle.
