A rare, three quarter length portrait of the beautiful Lady Charles Spencer. She stands in the wooded park of Blenheim Palace, wearing a tightly fitting riding habit, hat in her left hand and cuddling the nose of her dappled grey mare. Maria (1743-1812), daughter of Lord Vere of Hanworth, descendant of the ancient, noble, Vere family and sister of the Duke of St. Albans. On October 2nd 1762 she married Lord Charles Spencer (1740-1820), 2nd son of the 3rd Duke of Marlborough, M.P. for Oxford, Treasurer for Ireland, Postmaster-General and Master of the Mint.
