Description
A three quarter length, seated portrait of the Justice of the Supreme Court, Calcutta, John Hyde (fl. 1773-1820). A plump, genial figure, he leans back in his carved armchair, resting one hand on a table and holding a quill pen in the other. He wears his ermine trimmed judge’s robes and full bottomed wig. One of the founder members of the Asiatic Society in 1783, he is buried in Calcutta.
