A fine three quarter length portrait of the Whig statesman Charles James Fox (1749-1806). Plump and swarthy, he stands with his hand resting on a paper inscribed A Bill for the better regulating the affairs of the E. I. Company, beneath which there is another paper headed Representation of the Commons to the King 1784. In the background is  parapet and draped brocade curtain.
