A half length portrait of John, Baron Rous, later created first Earl of Stradbroke whose family seat was at Henham Park, near Beccles, Suffolk. A portly gentleman with grey hair, he wears his peer’s robes. In the background is a vista of the Suffolk countryside. His second son Henry Rous (1795-1877), is chiefly famous for becoming an incorruptible Steward and the Jockey Club’s first professional handicapper.
