A rare caricature. Wellington drives a Royal stagecoach furiously to the right, oversetting a donkey-drawn dustcart with Lord Eldon as he goes. The horses all have human heads of Lyndhurst, Scarlett, Brougham and Burdett, and in the coach George IV can be seen smiling benignly through the window, while behind is Lady Conyngham and the guard in a scarlett coat and Peel as the ‘cad’ clinging onto the boot. An allusion to William Heath’s famous ‘coaching’ satires and Lord Eldon’s opposition to Catholic Emancipation. BM 15720 .
